Surveillance data published since 2010, although limited, showed that there is no evidence of zoonotic parasite infection in market quality Atlantic salmon, marine rainbow trout, gilthead seabream, turbot, meagre, Atlantic halibut, common carp and European catfish. No studies were found for greater amberjack, brown trout, African catfish, European eel and pikeperch. Anisakis pegreffii, A. simplex (s. s.) and Cryptocotyle lingua were found in European seabass, Atlantic bluefin tuna and/or cod, and Pseudamphistomum truncatum and Paracoenogonimus ovatus in tench, produced in open offshore cages or flow-through ponds or tanks. It is almost certain that fish produced in closed recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) or flow-through facilities with filtered water intake and exclusively fed heat-treated feed are free of zoonotic parasites. Since the last EFSA opinion, the UV-press and artificial digestion methods have been developed into ISO standards to detect parasites in fish, while new UV-scanning, optical, molecular and OMICs technologies and methodologies have been developed for the detection, visualisation, isolation and/or identification of zoonotic parasites in fish. Freezing and heating continue to be the most efficient methods to kill parasites in fishery products. High-pressure processing may be suitable for some specific products. Pulsed electric field is a promising technology although further development is needed. Ultrasound treatments were not effective. Traditional dry salting of anchovies successfully inactivated Anisakis. Studies on other traditional processes - air-drying and double salting (brine salting plus dry salting) - suggest that anisakids are successfully inactivated, but more data covering these and other parasites in more fish species and products is required to determine if these processes are always effective. Marinade combinations with anchovies have not effectively inactivated anisakids. Natural products, essential oils and plant extracts, may kill parasites but safety and organoleptic data are lacking. Advanced processing techniques for intelligent gutting and trimming are being developed to remove parasites from fish.

BACKGROUND: Considering the recently growing number of potentially traumatic events in Europe, the European Psychiatric Association undertook a study to investigate clinicians' treatment choices for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). METHODS: The case-based analysis included 611 participants, who correctly classified the vignette as a case of PTSD, from Central/ Eastern Europe (CEE) (n = 279), Southern Europe (SE) (n = 92), Northern Europe (NE) (n = 92), and Western Europe (WE) (N = 148). RESULTS: About 82% woulduse antidepressants (sertraline being the most preferred one). Benzodiazepines and antipsychotics were significantly more frequently recommended by participants from CEE (33 and 4%, respectively), compared to participants from NE (11 and 0%) and SE (9% and 3%). About 52% of clinicians recommended trauma-focused cognitive behavior therapy and 35% psychoeducation, irrespective of their origin. In the latent class analysis, we identified four distinct "profiles" of clinicians. In Class 1 (N = 367), psychiatrists would less often recommend any antidepressants. In Class 2 (N = 51), clinicians would recommend trazodone and prolonged exposure therapy. In Class 3 (N = 65), they propose mirtazapine and eye movement desensitization reprocessing therapy. In Class 4 (N = 128), clinicians propose different types of medications and cognitive processing therapy. About 50.1% of participants in each region stated they do not adhere to recognized treatment guidelines. CONCLUSIONS: Clinicians' decisions for PTSD are broadly similar among European psychiatrists, but regional differences suggest the need for more dialogue and education to harmonize practice across Europe and promote the use of guidelines.

RESUMO

Anisakiosis is a significant zoonotic disease caused by parasitic nematodes of the Anisakis genus. It can be contracted by humans through the consumption of raw or undercooked fish contaminated with the parasite, leading to gastrointestinal and allergic symptoms. While anisakiosis is not frequently documented in Portugal, the presence of allergic reactions to Anisakis in Spain suggests ongoing exposure in the Iberian Peninsula. To address this concern, the Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research in Porto, Portugal, in collaboration with the Biology Centre of Czech Academy of Sciences in Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, has proposed a project entitled 'Assessing Portuguese Health Risks: Anisakis Parasite in Atlantic Chub Mackerel (Scomber colias) Sold in Portuguese Markets' under the European Food Risk Assessment Fellowship Programme. The primary objective of the project is to gather valuable epidemiological data on the host, Atlantic chub mackerel (S. colias) and the parasitic nematode (Anisakis spp.) with the focus on assessing contamination levels and evaluating potential health risks associated with anisakiosis in the Portuguese population. By conducting this research, the project aims to contribute to the understanding of anisakiosis and its impact on public health in Portugal. Investigation of the presence of the Anisakis parasite in Atlantic chub mackerel sold in Portuguese markets will provide crucial insights into the risks associated with consuming raw or undercooked fish. Ultimately, our findings will aid in the development of preventive measures and guidelines to ensure the well-being of the Portuguese population.

INTRODUCTION: Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) diseases are challenging both from clinical and therapeutic perspectives. The advent of next-generation sequencing (NGS) boosted the discovery of new genetic defects affecting OXPHOS, with pathogenic variants identified in >350 genes to date [1]. However, in many patients, novel variants of unknown clinical significance are found. Subsequent functional studies may clarify its pathogenic consequences and modify the variant's classification, establishing a genetic diagnosis [2, 3]. METHODS: Analysis of data obtained from patients (P1-P5) with novel genetic causes and functional genomics' studies performed, namely OXPHOS respiratory/glycolytic rates (Seahorse XF), enzymatic activity and assembly (BN-page), protein levels (SDS-WB), single muscle fiber assay, NGS and bioinformatics. RESULTS/CASE REPORT: P1-Leigh syndrome (40y, male); Complex IV activity deficiency (full assembly absent), homozygous deletion (c.-11_13del, SURF1), not detected by NGS[2]. P2- Epileptic encephalopathy (8y, male); homozygous c.882-1G>A, FASTKD2; OXPHOS decrease; reduced FASTKD2 expression and abnormal respiratory/glycolytic rates. P3-Cardiomyopathy/ nephropathy (39y, male); c.29G>C, FASTKD2; OXPHOS decrease; reduced FASTKD2 levels. P4-CPEO (62y, female); multiple OXPHOS deficiency; mtDNA alterations (m.7486G>A, MTTS1; 4,977bp del); higher levels of mutant mtDNA alterations in COX-deficient fibers [3]. P5- Polyneuropathy (15y, female); heterozygous c.1437C>A, POLG; combined def. or normal OXPHOS activity/respiratory capacity (tissue variable), raised CI assembly; normal POLG levels. Also, proteins' expression levels were reduced (P1-4), confirming pathogenicity. In P5, data do not support pathogenicity. CONCLUSION: If specific functional results are similar to controls, one might inquire about the pathogenicity of the studied variant and more genetic or bioinformatics analyses and family investigations are needed. There are also limitations of NGS in mutation detection that Sanger sequencing can overcome (P1). When performed first, the OXPHOS activity may guide to genetic screening or interpretation, concordant to later assembly results. All cases were solved and data may be crucial for genetic counseling.

OBJECTIVE: This study analyzes the psychometric properties of the two forms (self-report and informant) of the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function-Adult version (BRIEF-A) in a sample of healthy Portuguese adults. METHOD: The participants were 608 adults, 304 of whom answered the self-report form (ages 18-59; 137 male and 167 female) and 304 who answered the informant form (ages 18-70; 110 male and 194 female). RESULTS: The internal consistency for the indexes and the Global Executive Composite was very good (≥.90), whereas for the scales they were either acceptable (between .70 and .80) or good (≥.80), except for the Inhibit scale in both forms. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test seven competing factor models for each of the forms. The original two-factor model (Behavioral Regulation and Metacognition Indexes) showed a slightly better model fit than the three-factor model (Behavioral Regulation, Emotional Regulation, and Metacognition Indexes) in both forms. The multiple-group analysis of the two-correlated-factor model across forms was supported (configural, metric, and partial scalar invariance). CONCLUSIONS: Overall, the BRIEF-A showed adequate psychometric properties, suggesting that it is a useful instrument to assess everyday executive functioning in healthy Portuguese adults.

INTRODUCTION: Leigh syndrome (LS) is clinically and genetically heterogeneous and presents defective mitochondrial bioenergetics. Patients present neurological symptoms and imagiological features that may result in early death [1]. The LS has been associated with mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variants, e.g., m.8993T>G (L156R) and m.8993T>C (L156P), in the MT-ATP6 gene. They lead to the substitution of a highly conserved amino acid in subunit 6 of ATP synthase, affecting the F0 domain and ATP synthesis [1-3]. We present five cases with m.8993T>G and a family harbouring m.8993T>C+m.1555A>G (proband and four relatives). METHODS: Our laboratory received 48 samples from LS-suspected patients. The samples (various tissues) were assessed for bioenergetics (activity of mitochondrial respiratory chain (MRC) complexes, ubiquinone content) and genetic analyses (mtDNA copy number, Sequencing and PCR-RFLP) by established protocols. RESULTS/CASE REPORT: Bioenergetics were assessed in 5 patients (various tissues) with varying levels of MRC/ATP synthase impairment. Six cases had a mtDNA pathogenic variant in the 8993 nucleotide associated with LS. Five cases presented the m.8993T>G variant, one of which (P5) possibly de novo. This variant was homoplasmy (P1-3) or very high heteroplasmy (P4/5, 90-95%). Of the four patients with bioenergetics assessment, three (P1/3/4) had deficiencies of MRC complexes, and P5 had small deficits. The other case (familial, proband and 4 relatives) presented a combination of m.1555A>G (homoplasmy) and m.8993T>C (heteroplasmy) variants. The proband presents m.8993T>C in 95% heteroplasmy and 85-35% in three relatives. All have m.1555A>G in homoplasmy, including the fourth relative without m.8993T>C. A deficiency (31%) was found in complex V activity in muscle for proband. CONCLUSION: We present a case series of patients harbouring pathogenic variants in the 8993 nucleotide of mtDNA, which have been associated with LS and impairment of MRC's complex V. These cases highlight the variability in clinical symptoms and their severity, as well as genetic heterogeneity within LS. Many patients will not present a classic pathogenic variant and there are many cases of asymptomatic relatives (carriers). It is important to get a broader view of the cases - classical methods and multiple tissue analysis are still valuable tools for the comprehensive characterization of patients.

BACKGROUND: Optimal pain management is one of the core elements of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS®) protocols and remains a challenge. Acupuncture (AC) is an effective treatment for various pain conditions. Systematic and personalized allocation of acupoints may be decisive for efficacy. METHODS: Based on the predominant pressure sensitivity of six gastrointestinal (GI) checkpoints (G1-G6), we devised a method to detect personalized patterns of pain and a corresponding set of acupoints. We performed a single AC treatment with semi-permanent needles and assessed the visual analogue scale (VAS) score, pain threshold based on pressure algometry (PA), and temperature changes on abdominal skin areas before and 5 min after AC. RESULTS: Between April and June 2021, thirty-eight patients were prospectively included in this pilot study. The mean reduction in subjective pain sensation as assessed by VAS was 86%, paralleled by an augmentation of the pain threshold as measured by PA by 64%. A small but significant increase in the skin temperature was observed above the abdominal surface. These effects were independent of the type of surgery. CONCLUSION: Checkpoint acupuncture may be a complementary tool for postoperative pain management. Further investigations are needed to explore this analgesic effect.

INTRODUCTION: Mitochondrial diseases are rare, heterogeneous, incurable and complex to diagnose. Probably due to their rareness, there is still a lack of literacy in this area, especially in society, but also in schools and in general, health care services. Accordingly, tools that may bring advancement in science and health literacy are needed. Mit.OnOff is a science communication project based on a bilateral partnership between the University of Coimbra (Portugal) and the University of Bergen (Norway). It aims to inform society about rare diseases related to mitochondrial cytopathies with an emphasis on LHON. METHODS: The initiative focuses on the creation of an illustrated book explaining the diseases caused by the failure of energy production in simple and accessible language. The aim is to raise awareness (particularly in Portugal and Norway) and provide in-depth knowledge to people suffering from these diseases. RESULTS/CASE REPORT: This project involves expert scientists in the field of mitochondrial disease, science communicators and artists in alignment with the United Nations SDGs, Agenda 2030. Mit.OnOff is a bilateral partnership (Portugal and Norway) established to address the lack of knowledge and health literacy on the subject of mitochondrial disease. The book will be distributed in both countries, creating a sense of inclusion and visibility and influencing decisions regarding these diseases. It is a relevant educational medium (e.g., schools, health care provision). The distribution of the book is complemented with other communication materials. Oral communications are made, together with public involvement, in which special glasses will be distributed to simulate a mitochondrial disease that leads to blindness (LHON) for the public to experience what it is like living with a rare disease. CONCLUSION: It is hoped that the production of this book will give patients a sense of inclusion and representation in the media. This, in turn, will contribute to achieving the SDG targets (3,4,5,8,10,12), i.e., ensuring people live healthy lives, reducing child mortality, and increasing life expectancy, ensuring access to inclusive, equitable and quality education for all, ensuring gender equality, and contributing to a peaceful and prosperous world.

Phoretic mites attach to different body parts of the red palm weevil (RPW), Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier, 1790), to disperse. However, the question of how the patterns of attachment sites are formed remains intriguing. Here, we examined RPW-associated phoretic mites in four districts in Northern Portugal (macrohabitat), and investigated the patterns of mite distribution on six body parts of RPW (microhabitat). At the macrohabitat level, we detected seven phoretic mite taxa using the RPW host in each of the four studied districts, all documented for the first time in association with this invasive exotic species in Portugal. However, their relative abundance (species evenness) varied between districts, as did species diversity. All examined weevils carried mites, and the prevalence of the different taxa did not differ between districts or sex of weevils. Measured by mean abundance and degree of aggregation, Centrouropoda sp. proved to be the dominant taxon, while Acarus sp. and Curculanoetus rhynchophorus were considered common subordinate taxa and Uroovobella sp., Mesostigmata, Nenteria extremica and Dendrolaelaps sp. sparse taxa. At the microhabitat level, all taxa were present on all body parts of the RPW; the highest abundance was in a region encompassing the inner surface of the elytra and the membranous hind wings (subelytral space). Analysis of niche overlap revealed that the distribution patterns of phoretic mite taxa on the RPW were not randomly structured. In the subelytral space, interspecific coexistence of mites increased as a function of body size difference with the dominant Centrouropoda sp. We found that in the subelytral space the large dominant species Centrouropoda sp. displaced the larger species Uroobovella sp. and the similarly sized species Nenteria extremica, but coexisted with smaller taxa.

BACKGROUND: It remains challenging in clinical practice to perform optimal pain management following bariatric surgeries. Acupuncture (AC) is an effective method of postoperative pain management, but its clinical efficacy depends on the rationale used to select AC points. METHODS: We developed a method to identify individual patterns of pain and a corresponding set of acupoints (corrAC) based on the relative pressure sensitivity of six abdominal visceral pressure points, i.e., the gastrointestinal (GI) checkpoints (G1-G6). Patients with moderate to severe pain were included and received a single AC treatment following surgery. The visual analog scale (VAS) score, pain threshold, and skin temperature were assessed before AC and at 5 min, 1 h, and 24 h following AC. AC was performed with 1-mm-deep permanent needles. RESULTS: From April 2021 to March 2022, 72 patients were included in the analysis. Fifty-nine patients received corrAC, whereas 13 received a noncorresponding AC (nonAC) as an internal control. Patients receiving corrAC showed a significant reduction (74%) in pain at 5 min after treatment (p < 0.0001) and a significant increase (37%) in the pain threshold (p < 0.0001). In this group, a significant increase in skin temperature above G1, G3, G4, and G5 was observed. Patients receiving nonAC showed neither significant pain reduction nor significant changes in pain threshold. The skin above G3 and G4 did not reveal temperature changes. CONCLUSION: Checkpoint AC may be an effective tool in postoperative pain therapy after bariatric surgery. Vegetative functional involvement might be associated with pain relief.

The introduction of a drink in the mouth and the action of saliva and enzymes cause the perception of basic tastes and some aromas perceived in a retro-nasal way. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the influence of the type of alcoholic beverage (beer, wine, and brandy) on lingual lipase and α-amylase activity and in-mouth pH. It was possible to see that the pH values (drink and saliva) differed significantly from the pH values of the initial drinks. Moreover, the α-amylase activity was significantly higher when the panel members tasted a colorless brandy, namely Grappa. Red wine and wood-aged brandy also induced greater α-amylase activity than white wine and blonde beer. Additionally, tawny port wine induced greater α-amylase activity than red wine. The flavor characteristics of red wines due to skin maceration and the contact of the brandy with the wood can cause a synergistic effect between beverages considered "tastier" and the activity of human α-amylase. We can conclude that saliva-beverage chemical interactions may depend on the saliva composition but also on the chemical composition of the beverage, namely its constitution in acids, alcohol concentration, and tannin content. This work is an important contribution to the e-flavor project, the development of a sensor system capable of mimicking the human perception of flavor. Furthermore, a better understanding of saliva-drink interactions allow us to comprehend which and how salivary parameters can contribute to taste and flavor perception.

(1) Background: The lack of flexibility is frequently reported as a risk factor for hamstring muscle damage. Acupuncture, a therapeutic tool of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), may play a role in both treatment and prevention by improving muscle strength, microcirculation, and reducing muscle soreness. The primary objective of this pilot study was to examine the immediate effects of acupuncture on hamstring muscle stretching and on the pain or discomfort reported during stretching. (2) Methods: To mitigate heterogeneity effects, and due to the small sample size, the study employed a crossover design in which each participant was tested at three different moments of the experimental period with verum (true acupuncture in selected acupoints), sham (fake acupuncture in zones of the skin not corresponding to any known acupoint but near the selected acupoints), and placebo (stimulation of the selected acupoints with a stainless steel wire and cannula, without puncturing) stimulations. Flexibility and pain or discomfort were assessed using the seat and reach test (SR) and a visual analogic scale (VAS). (3) Results: Significant changes in flexibility were observed after verum acupuncture (p = 0.03), while no significant changes were seen in sham and placebo (p = 0.86 and p = 0.18, respectively). No significant differences were found in pain or discomfort during any of the stimulations (verum, p = 0.55; sham, p = 0.50; placebo, p = 0.58). (4) Conclusions: The results of this pilot study suggest that acupuncture may improve flexibility in the hamstring muscles, though it does not significantly affect pain or discomfort during stretching.

Myxosporeans are widespread cnidarian parasites that usually parasitize fish as part of their complex life cycle, thus constituting a potential threat for the aquaculture industry. White seabream Diplodus sargus (L.) is a commercially valuable sparid fish reared in Southern European aquacultures. Nonetheless, knowledge on myxosporean infections potentially harming the sustainable production of this fish is extremely limited. In this study, a myxosporean survey was conducted on D. sargus specimens reared in two Southern Portuguese fish farms. Two coelozoic myxosporeans were detected infecting the gall bladder, and are herein reported based on microscopic and molecular procedures: Ceratomyxa sargus n. sp. and Zschokkella auratis Rocha et al., 2013, previously described from reared stocks of gilthead seabream Sparus aurata in the same geographic locality. Ceratomyxa sargus n. sp. is the 12th species of the genus to be reported from Southern European sparids, reinforcing a substantial radiation of Ceratomyxa within this fish family and geographic region. SSU rRNA-based Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood analyses revealed C. sargus n. sp. positioned separately from other sparid-infecting Ceratomyxa spp. reported from Southern European countries, demonstrating that this species does not share a more immediate common ancestor with its closest relatives based on host affinity and geography. The recognition of a novel sparid-infecting lineage within the Ceratomyxa clade strengthens the contention that this genus entered sparid fish multiple times, namely in the Southern European region. The identification of Zschokkella auratis infections in D. sargus demonstrates that host shift has occurred among sparids reared in the Southern Portuguese coast. This agrees with the broad host specificity that is usually attributed to this genus, and that may be suggested to be the outcome of the capacity of the Zschokkella morphotype to undergo host shift/switch based on our findings and the limited molecular data available for this genus. Thus, a better understanding of Zschokkella host-associated diversification and dispersal mechanisms requires the increasing availability of molecular data from infections of the same species occurring in multiple hosts and geographical locations.

Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON) has been mainly (90-95 %) associated to one of three variants: m.3460G>A, m.11778G>A, m.14484T>C. Herein, a screening method was developed for its detection, supporting clinical/therapeutics decision. It relies on real-time PCR with High-Resolution Melting (HRM) analysis. Variant classification is made using HRM Software and quality controls. A total of 101 samples were analyzed. All samples were correctly assigned: 58 wild-type, 35 positive for m.11778G>A, 6 positive for m.14484T>C, 2 positive for m.3460G>A. Results presented sensitivity = 1, specificity = 1, Positive Predictive Value = 1 and Negative Predictive Value = 1. A new Real-Time PCR/HRM screening method cost-efficient, simple, robust and quick, detecting LHON's top-3 is described.

This study aimed to investigate the factor structure and the measurement invariance across gender of the BRIEF2 Parent Form in Portuguese typically developing children. Participants were 700 typically developing children (n = 352 girls and n = 348 boys) aged 6-16 years. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test five competing factor models. Consistent with the BRIEF2 original dimensional structure, the three-factor model demonstrated the most adequate fit to the data. The measurement invariance of the three-factor model across gender was supported (configural, metric, and partial scalar invariance). Overall, the BRIEF2 Parent Form showed adequate psychometric properties, suggesting that it is a useful instrument to assess everyday executive functioning based on reports of behaviors observed by parents in healthy Portuguese children.

Health-promoting compounds in wine and wine-related products are important due to their potential benefits to human health. Through an extensive literature review, this study explores the presence of these compounds in wine and wine-related products, examining their relationship with terroir and their impact on the aromatic and flavor properties that are perceived orally: sunlight exposure, rainfall patterns, and soil composition impact grapevines' synthesis and accumulation of health-promoting compounds. Enzymes, pH, and the oral microbiome are crucial in sensory evaluation and perception of health promotion. Moreover, their analysis of health-promoting compounds in wine and wine-related products relies on considerations such as the specific target compound, selectivity, sensitivity, and the complexity of the matrix.

RESUMO

The European chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.), is an environmentally and economically important species in Europe, mainly for fruit production. The chestnut fruit is well-known for its nutritional properties, namely its high concentration of carbohydrates (starch) and its low-fat content, as well as being one of the few fruits that do not contain gluten. Due to its chemical and nutritional characteristics beneficial to health, the sweet chestnut is a food recommended at different levels. The biochemistry of the mouth and nose of a human being is very complex. However, understanding the different interactions between the biochemistry of our sensory organs and food helps us to comprehend certain concepts, such as flavor and how it is involved in the sensory evaluation of the chestnuts. For the selection of high-quality products, it is necessary to develop reliable methods both from a qualitative and sensory point of view, and chestnut is a fruit with unique sensory characteristics that can be used in various gastronomic dishes, from main courses to desserts.

As narrativas visuais, como os quadrinhos, são ferramentas populares que podem contribuir para a edu-cação e a comunicação científica para diferentes públicos. Dentro dessa perspectiva, este trabalho discute o uso de quadrinhos na disseminação do conhecimento sobre a segurança alimentar de peixes em um evento de divulgação científica. Para a ocasião, foi criada uma história, que enfatizou o conceito sobre Anisakisspp. e as metodologias de prevenção da anisaquíase. O enredo envolveu participantes de todas as idades, sugerindo fortemente que os quadrinhos são cativantes e funcionam como uma ferramenta de aprendizado, podendo contribuir para a alfabetização científifica da população, levando à promoção da saúde em níveis individual e coletivo. Destaca-se aqui a importância da produção de novos conhecimentos, que ampliem o diálogo das áreas da saúde, da ciência e da tecnologia com a sociedade. Além disso, torna-se urgente aumentar os investimentos e promover a formação avançada e continuada de divulgadores da ciência.


Visual narratives, like comics, are popular tools that can contribute to science education and communi-cation for different audiences. Within this perspective, this work discusses the use of comics in the dis-semination of knowledge about fish food safety in a scientific dissemination event. For the occasion, a story was created, which emphasized the concept of Anisakis spp. and methodologies for the prevention of anisakiasis. The plot involved participants of all ages, strongly suggesting that comics are captivating and function as a learning tool, which can contribute to the scientific literacy of the population, leading to health promotion at an individual and collective levels. We highlight the importance of producing new knowledge that expands the dialogue between the areas of health, science and technology with society. Furthermore, it is urgent to increase investments and promote advanced and continuous training for science disseminators


Las narrativas visuales, como los cómics, son herramientas populares que pueden contribuir a la educación científica y la comunicación para diferentes públicos. Dentro de esta perspectiva, este trabajo discute el uso de las historietas en la difusión del conocimiento sobre la seguridad alimentaria de los peces en un evento de divulgación científica. Para la ocasión, se creó una historia, que enfatizó el concepto de Anisakis spp. y las metodologías para la prevención de la anisakiasis. La trama involucró a participantes de todas las edades, lo que sugiere fuertemente que los cómics son cautivadores y funcionan como una herramienta de aprendiza-je, que puede contribuir a la alfabetización científica de la población, lo que lleva a la promoción de la salud a los niveles individual y colectivo. Se destaca aquí la importancia de producir nuevos conocimientos, lo que amplía el diálogo entre las áreas de la salud, la ciencia y la tecnología con la sociedad, además, es urgente incrementar las inversiones y promover la formación avanzada y continua de los divulgadores de la ciencia

Little attention has been given to the role of practitioners in evidence-based parenting programs and to the evaluation that parents make of their importance in the process of change. This study aims to explore the role that parents assign to the facilitators of the Incredible Years (IY) program in enabling long-term life changes, as well as the association between parents' evaluation of the practitioners' skills and specific changes perceived after the intervention. In this longitudinal study, we applied 1 survey to 80 community parents who had participated in an IY group 2 years before, and we retrieved archival data to assess changes in parents' ratings of sense of competence and in children's behaviors immediately after the end of the intervention. Two years after the intervention, parents perceived significant improvements, especially in their parenting and their children's behaviors, and they recognized that their IY practitioners had played a significant role in these life changes. Parents who attributed a greater role to the practitioners' skills reported a greater number of improvements in parental sense of competence and in children's behaviors. The practitioners' skills relating more broadly to these specific changes are the practitioners' sensitivity and flexibility towards parents' needs and the practitioners' ability to clearly share knowledge with parents. The practitioner's assigned role when implementing an evidence-based parenting program seems to go far beyond the mere conveyance of the program's specific contents and methods and deserves to be researched further.

RESUMO

The European anchovy represents the main fisheries for countries in the Mediterranean and Black Sea basins. The skeletal muscle of 13 of 48 (27.1%) Engraulis encrasicolus (L.) specimens from North East Atlantic waters (FAO 27.8.c) was found infected with interfibrillar elongated plasmodia (130-980 µm in length) containing mature myxospores belonging to the genus Kudoa Meglitsch, 1947. No flesh softening was found associated with infection. Fresh myxospores were 10.8 ± 0.7 (9.1-12.3) µm in width 1, 11.3 ± 0.9 (9.5-13.4) µm in width 2, 6.7 ± 0.4 (5.8-7.4) µm in thickness, and 6.9 ± 0.5 (5.8-7.5) µm in length. They were almost stellate in apical view having three pointed-edged shell valves bearing three small polar capsules equal in size 5.0 ± 0.3 (4.4-5.4) µm long and 2.4 ± 0.2 (2.0-3.0) µm wide, and one rounded- to rarely bluntly pointed-edged shell valve bearing a large and particularly wide polar capsule 6.8 ± 0.4 (5.9-7.6) µm long and 4.1 ± 0.2 (3.6-4.4) µm wide. Morphological and morphometrical comparisons between these myxospores and those of Kudoa thyrsites (Gilchrist, 1923) from the clupeid Sardina pilchardus (Walbaum) (North East Atlantic waters, FAO 27.9.a), with which exhibited a similarity of 98.9% and 96.2% using SSU and LSU rDNA sequences, respectively, support the creation of Kudoa encrasicoli n. sp. Morphometrical analysis of the polar capsules of flattened myxospores is suggested as a useful approach to differentiate phylogenetically related kudoids with stellate or almost stellate myxospores bearing four polar capsules.
